Here is a broadsheet newspaper, called "The Bucks Berald".
Compared to the tabloid news paper "The Sun," there is a big difference in layout, text, market audience, and information.
This newspaper is much more informatic, as the cover has alot of text printed onto it.
The paper has a main headline and story with a relevant sized picture to go with it, along with other stories at the foot of the page which also have relevant sized images to go along with it.

The Broadsheet targets more working class people, who have an interest in current matters and reading informatic news, compared to gossip served in tabloid newspapers such as the sun.

The composition of the cover is done well in relation to its audience as it fits a main story at the top, with other important mini stories at the bottom, it includes a well sized image for the main article as well as little images for the smaller stories.

This is the front page of 'The Sun.'
Which is the second-highest selling newspaper in the

country. The paper is in tabloid form and is aimed to attract avergae working class people, as its a baragin for 20p. the paper, especially this one in general seems to be targeted more towards male readers. As it stereo typically features woman and sports.

The target audience is stereotypically attracted by the use of the models image holding a banner with the word "GOAL" written across it, signyfiying that men care about two things, sports and topless women. The cover also does not have alot of text, which would deffinatley attract the majority of male readers, as this signyfys that men wouldnt read articles by choice, and would tend to read more Masculine articles.

The composition of the cover is used well in its objective of grabbing the attention of readers.
It is credited by the use of The female model, whom is the centre of attentsion literally. She is used well in the layout as she is holding up a banner which has a key word related to the articles main topic.

The image is shot by a medium shot, with the female model giving a seductive yet seemingly friendly and open pose. This is interesting as it very cleverly done to attract readers. who pay close attention to expresions. A good use of high key lighting is used, to highlight the models body along with the banner that she is holding up.

The use of colour is clever as the background is black. I would say this is clever as this makes the light skinned model stand out even more then she would on a plain white background. A result of this is obvious as more male readers would be able to nottice this from greater distances, attracting the target audience as well as other readers.
This along with the name of the paper stand out alone from the other smaller articles. Giving the papers brand name as well its feature article good advertising.

The Main focuss of the cover is the image of the woman and the word “GOAL,” which shows the intent to ‘score’ as the paper is linked to the world cup, but it can also be seen from the male pespective, the desire to score with the topless woman.
Some viewers (Majority of whom are female) may see this image and message as a degrading use of the female Body, This would attarct opposition reading. In which an audience which is not the target audience, Mainly the opposite to the targeted readers would in turn read the paper.
Along with the targeted audience, whom would genrally read the paper and its content out of general interst in its topics and format of news.

Run Fatboy Run

Run Fatboy Run

This film is a british romantic comedy. the storyline is about a guy named Dennis Doyle (Simon Pegg), who is the main character, they story is about Dennis and his life, he is a lazy individual, who takes any short cuts he can to avoid doing work. He is okay with the way his life is going till he finds out that a new man has come into the lives of his son an her mother(Dennis's ex fiannce, whom he left at the alter). He is aware of the competetion he poses as he is everything kevin is not, most of all being athletic. This gets Dennis's to comfront him, and challenge him to a marathon. So in all the film is about kevins quest to regain his family by ironickly being in a race to get fit for a race. this film involves many jokes and hillarious scenes suitable for the whole family.

There are different techniques used in this film to connote to its genre, for example. there is a clumsy affect used by the characters, by falling or stumbling. there is also a good use of fighting used in addition to the clumsyness as this makes the audience laugh.

The lighting used is bright to show the film is a fun and easy. the lighting doesnt need to be over the top as the film is mostly based during the day time.

The film is set in east london, to show the upper and lower class's of the area, as dennis is a lower class person, whereas his competition is an upper class business man.

The films equilibirum is when you see dennis and how he is after he left his fiannce at the alter.
The distruption is when the new guy comes into his ex fiannce an his sons life.
The recognition is when dennis realises what he has to do in order to win back his family.
The attempt to repair is him taking part in the race and not giving up.
The new equilibirum is when dennis gets a date with his ex fiannce, as she is giving him a second chance. this could set up for a sequel, as the audience would want to know what happens next.

Anchorage of a poster for the film.
Transformers 2: Revenge of the fallen

The poster has dark clouds at the top and bright lighting towards the bottom; this gives a binary opposition of good vs. evil, light vs. dark. Using this and the follow on for the title “revenge of the fallen” we can get an idea of what the film will be about.

Also we can see that in the picture, the lighting is used to show the woman (Megan fox) in a bright light, showing the viewers what side of the battle that she is on, although she does have a strong pose, maybe to suggest leadership. To coincide with this we can also see a boy (Shia Lebouf) form his expression and body language we can see that he looks afraid and almost ironically looking up towards the light for guidance. The boy is also carrying a cube; from this and his facial expressions we sense that the cube and the boy must be important to the storyline of this film.
In the image of the poster we can also see a robot (Optimus Prime), and the way he has been edited into the picture slightly behind the boy suggests almost as if he has a guardian or a protective role in the film. From seeing this we can tell who the 3 main characters in the film are.
Also at the top of the poster there is a slogan or catchphrase of some sort, which reads “more ALIEN ROBOTS, bigger EXPLOSIONS and much more Megan fox,” this is used in good effect as it is telling the viewer what to expect from the film. This seems to be slightly backed up in the image as it does have Megan fox in the image as the 1st thing you would see, and it includes fire to suggest the idea of explosions. It also includes 1 of the many robots that will be in the film.
It also has at the bottom of the poster when it will be coming out. It is cleverly done as it doesn’t give a date, but a season, so viewers, fans and people who would want to watch the film would have to follow the news of it and stay tuned to it. Keeping them interested and waiting for it to come out.

Shoot em up

Shoot Em Up

In the opening sequences of this film. The first thing you see is a Male dressed in all black, with a long black coat. From this you can get the idea that the character might be a villain. Also the 1st prop that we see is a gun in his hand; this confirms our 1st opinion of the character. The setting is night time and the scene takes place in an abandoned building, which looks like a place to hide out of desperation from the 1st female character that was running away from the villain. There is low key lighting as it is taking place at night, and this is relevant to the effect of the theme.
The next thing you notice is another male characters expression to seeing the pregnant female being cornered. He seems to give off an impression of being tired and frustrated. We can tell that he is frustrated and stressed as he crushes his coffee cup in his hand and proceeds to follow the action.
The camera changes from the guy, to the villain whom has the pregnant female cornered in the dark building, this gives him a sense of power as he laughs and point his gun towards her.
The next thing we notice is the cameras effect as its showing the only the villain and the pregnant female cornered, then out of the mist comes the other guy who we can assume is the main character. He too is wearing very dark cloths, although his actions show he is not a villain as he comes to the aid of the pregnant female.
Our opinion of the main character is confirmed as he helps the woman, who for her unfortunately has her water break and the main character is there to help her. This is interesting as immediately after this we notice more villains appear in groups all wearing similar dark, black cloths and having guns on them.
Shooting begins. During the shooting the camera angles change to show both sides of the battle. After the distinguished villains seem to have been killed, more appear. Who seem to be angry at the fact they cannot kill one man. The anger is shown by their lack of aim, an instead they are shooting blind shots. The camera does some good closes ups on them and on how they die. Also they all appear in low key lighting as they try and hide.
It’s interesting as there is not a lot of speech in this scene yet the main character has time to talk about his frustrations to the woman, whilst he is shooting and delivering her baby at the same time.
As the scene goes on. There is more shooting, and blood is shown. Throughout the scene there are a different number of camera angles, this shows us the viewers, the good and bad sides of the battle. The lighting seems to be a mixture of low key and high key as the scenes are very realistic, and the shadows aren’t really pronounced. The language used also shows that the characters are expressing anger and frustration but for different reasons. There are not really any props used apart from guns.

To summarise the beginning of the film “Shoot ‘Em up” there is an overall thriller and gangster theme going on, as it is a lot of shooting in the opening minutes and opening scenes. All the characters seem to be wearing similar cloths as they are wearing dark cloths, which seem to suit the role of their character. There is good use of camera angles and high key lighting to add to the effect on the scenes. There is not really any props required or used apart from the obvious (guns) and the characters facial expressions show their emotions during the shooting.

the holiday

The Holiday

The film that I am analyzing is called”the holiday”. This is a romance, you can tell this straight away as it opens with very bright high key lighting, that is coming from the sun, this moves on towards a couple that are kissing. The concept of this shows love and happiness, which is what the genre is about. The next thing you see is the camera angle widening, so you can see that the kissing is on a TV/computer screen. As the camera angle widens you can hear soft and sweet music playing. This is being played by a guy (jack black) on a piano. As he plays this his eyes are closed and he has a smile on his face, this shows that he is taking the music in, and that he enjoys playing the music, we can also assume that he is a loving character. As he opens his eyes and sees the girl he loves, as she approaches he kisses her hand. This shows a gentleman side of him. Also the lighting in this scene is high key lighting.
As this is all happening, you begin to hear a females (Kate Winslet) voice in a narrative form, talking about love. The tone of the voice shows that there is happiness in the person talking. You can assume that the voice is a voice over and has been recorded separately and added on, this called a montage.
The interesting thing is as she talks about love she begins sweet and soft, till she begins to talk about her own love life, which is when her tone of voice changes in almost a way to be against love.
As she is talking the camera fades away from the male playing the piano and onto the next scene which is the female sitting at her desk during an office party. The lighting in this scene is similar to the scene before as its still high key lighting.
One thing you notice is the camera angles start off as a close up, but then change to a (POV) point of view camera angle. The use of this camera angle shows that she must be an important character in the film.
As she begins walking across the room you can notice that her narrative changes into her thoughts, still talking about her love life. Whilst she is doing this you can notice that even though she is at a party, she doesn’t seem to interact with anyone or even look like she’s enjoying it, as her facial expressions show. The director makes her seem more singled out, by using the cameras to filter across the room showing other people enjoying themselves and drinking wine.
You then notice her staring at a guy, who we can tell from her expression, is the guy whom she loves.
As she seems to be gazed by this. A work mate comes across after noticing that she is upset, by seeing that she has tearful eyes. As she is trying to comfort her, the camera angles remain at (POV) as she is the main character in the scene.
In all you can tell from the opening sequences that this is a romance film. As its main focus is love. It also shows two main characters in the opening sequence.
zoolander

The genre of this film is comedy, although the way the film starts off you would not guess that or think it straight away, as it begins in a dark building with very low key lighting, giving a dark and mysterious effect. Also another thing that puts you away from the genre is that there is a meeting going on and all the characters are wearing dark cloths, and discussing evil plans.
The lighting also gives a silhouette effect on some of the characters.
The camera slowly fades into the darkness and then into the new scene, which appears to be an interview before a photo shoot. The 1st thing you notice in the scene is the dramatic change in lighting from the 1st scene as it is very bright high key lighting. This gives the viewers an irony and something to think about as it is the opposite of the 1st scene so the audience doesn’t know which genre it is.
As the second scene begins it shows the female, whom is wearing bright colours begins talking asking questions. This immediately shows that’s she is the interviewer. As she finishes speaking, before the male character (Zoolander) speaks, there is an interesting affect that is used. As there are quick camera shots of all the props in this scene that are used for hair and makeup. As he speaks the camera goes and does an immediate close up, signaling that he is a main character. The camera switches back and forth every time the other person speaks. Then as he poses, the camera does a big close up on his face and holds it there for a few seconds. Immediately there is a quick look back to see the female’s response, and her facial expression shows that she is surprised but amused by it. The scene ends after a quick pose.

The next scene is a far view of the ocean which zooms in and closes up onto the statue of liberty, indicating that the film is set in New York. Immediately after this the scene shows a high key lighting as it shows an interview being taken on the red carpet of a fashion show. This could give a clue on what the film is about. If you put the photo shoot and the fashion show together. Although ironically the cameras flash back and forth between the interview scene and the fashion show scene.
There is bright high key lighting used in both scenes. As this happens for a roughly a minute, the photo shoot scene ends surprisingly, leaving the fashion show scene to take over.
Overall from the opening sequences if you pay attention to the dialogue and the lighting as well as the different characters expressions you can get a feel of the genre, which is comedy.
